Grasping the Basics
of Reading and Writing

This introductory module ensures you acquire the minimum skills needed to read and write in Arabic, laying the groundwork for your progression into Module 2.

Basic Reading: Combine letters with harakaat (short vowels) to form simple words and phrases.

Basic Writing: Practice writing letters and words, and begin transcribing simple phrases you hear.

Basic Writing: Practice writing letters and words, and begin transcribing simple phrases you hear.

The goal of this stage is to equip you with just enough proficiency to read and write Arabic at a foundational level, preparing you for the more advanced lessons in Module 2.

Stage
01

Building Your Most Essential Foundation
(Lessons 1–16)

In this stage, you will acquire the foundational vocabulary and skills necessary to begin speaking entirely in Arabic. Over the first 16 lessons, you will learn approximately 1,000 key words and phrases, empowering you to communicate fully in Arabic, albeit slowly, and understand explanations given only in Arabic.

By the end of this stage, you will:

Speak Arabic: Engage in basic conversations about day-to-day topics, introduce yourself, ask and answer simple questions, and express your needs—all without relying on translations.

Read and Write Arabic: Recognize key words and phrases in texts and write simple personal details, allowing you to engage with basic written materials.

This stage focuses on building the habit of consistent learning, applying vocabulary, and mastering each lesson before moving forward. By the end, you’ll not only see yourself speaking and understanding Arabic but also gain the confidence to continue your journey to fluency with a solid foundation.

Stage
02

Your First Connection with Scholars in Arabic (Lessons 17–44)

This stage marks a significant milestone in your Arabic journey. With 2,000 essential vocabulary words and a growing ability to understand and express yourself, you’ll start engaging with Islamic scholars and resources directly in Arabic.

By the end of this stage, you will:

Speak confidently in Arabic about familiar topics like daily activities, personal experiences, and immediate needs.

Understand general lectures from scholars Combine letters with harakaat (short vowels) to form simple words and phrases.

Read contemporary scholar’s books Practice writing letters and words, and begin transcribing simple phrases you hear.

Write basic messages, such as personal correspondence and short instructions, using proper structures.

This is where learners often experience an “Aha” moment, realizing that Arabic is not as daunting as it once seemed. By consistently applying the habits developed earlier—like mastering vocabulary and forming sentences—you’ll feel prepared to navigate more complex conversations and texts.

Stage
03

Getting Closer to Fluency (Lessons 45–65)

This stage brings you to the edge of fluency, expanding your vocabulary to 4,000 words. Experts say fluency begins around 5,000 words, so you’re now within reach. You’ll feel much more confident forming natural, grammatically correct sentences and handling verb conjugations with ease.

By the end of this stage, you will:

Understand Spoken Arabic: Follow conversations, lectures, and discussions on familiar topics, including Islamic teachings and everyday matters.

Speak Naturally: Participate in discussions about hobbies, travel, or current events, express opinions, and narrate stories effortlessly.

Read Effectively: Understand intermediate Islamic texts, simple articles, and books by contemporary authors with accessible language.

Navigate Daily Life: Manage social and professional interactions, arrange travel, and handle routine problems independently.

This stage boosts your confidence, making Arabic feel more natural and preparing you to approach full fluency in a variety of settings.

Stage
04

Achieving Fluency & Independence
(Lessons 66–95)

This final stage propels you to fluency, expanding your vocabulary to approximately 8,000 words. At this level, you’ll immerse yourself in foundational texts of Arabic grammar (Al-Ajurrumiyya) and morphology (Tatbeeq Sarfi), equipping you with the tools to study and grow independently.

By the end of this stage, you will:

Listen with Confidence:  Follow extended lectures, news broadcasts, and films, even on complex or abstract topics.

Speak Fluently: Engage in spontaneous conversations, express detailed opinions, and debate confidently on a wide range of subjects.

Read Advanced Texts: Understand contemporary literature, in-depth articles, technical texts, and foundational Islamic works.

Write Effectively: Produce well-structured essays, reports, and correspondence on diverse topics with logical arguments and clear reasoning.

Navigate Complex Contexts: Handle professional and social interactions, debates, and abstract discussions, including idiomatic expressions and nuanced meanings.

By studying Al-Ajurrumiyya and Tatbeeq Sarfi, you gain the independence to pursue advanced studies in Arabic, whether focusing on Quranic memorisation with understanding, Fiqh, Hadith or other fields. This is the stage where you can confidently say, I am fluent in Arabic, Alhamdulillah.

A Curriculum That Works

You’ll be learning from Kashf al-Mufradaat (Unveiling the Vocabulary), a unique curriculum created by the team at Andalus Institute led by Ustadh Muhammad Al Andalusi. Drawing from his experience of learning Arabic from scratch and his polyglot fluency in five languages, Ustadh Muhammad has transformed the challenges and insights he encountered across languages into a simplified, effective approach to learning Arabic. By Lesson 16, students reach the level of speaking entirely in Arabic, with the curriculum ultimately preparing them to access and understand Islamic scholarly texts.

When I was 17, I was exactly where you are right now.

I wanted to learn Arabic—to connect with Allah, to understand His words directly—but everything seemed to be in the way.

I didn’t have much money.

I had dropped out of school at 16.

I didn't have a job.

I didn’t have a clear plan.

And I kept thinking, “Maybe this isn’t the right time.”

Maybe I should figure my life out first

I could’ve told myself, “Wait until I save money” or “Focus on other things first.”

But deep down, I knew waiting wouldn’t solve anything.

And how would Allah ﷻ not help me achieve this goal of understanding his book.

So, I made a decision.

I left with barely anything in my pocket.

No guarantees.

No plan except trusting in Allah.

And wallahi, Allah took care of me every step of the way.

He provided.

He guided.

He taught me Arabic.

And He made it possible for me to do what felt impossible.

Looking back, I realize the truth:
It’s always the right time to worship Allah and learn more about His religion.

That should be our main priority in life

If I had waited, Allah knows best I might've still been stuck.

I didn’t have endless hours or resources.

But I used what I had.

Even small, consistent steps made all the difference.

Likewise, the students below…

They are all busy with life—responsibilities, family, work, university studies, careers.

But they didn’t make excuses.

They didn’t let “I don’t have time” or “I have too much going on” stop them.

They made time.

Because they understood that getting closer to Allah is not just important—it’s the bare minimum of what Allah deserves from us.

Your rizq—your time, your resources, your sustenance—is in the hands of Allah.

And when you take a step toward Him, He will take care of the rest.

Allah ﷻ promises us:

“And whoever fears Allah—He will make for him a way out and will provide for him from where he does not expect.”

(Surah At-Talaq, Ayah 2-3)
